Prerequisites: Students should play an instrument or sing to a proficient standard. They must receive individual music lessons on their chosen instrument.  They must be prepared to perform: 30% of the total mark is for performance. If in doubt, please ask for an audition with Miss Pridham

This two-year course is based on three assessment objectives: Listening, Performing and Composing.

Listening  is based on seven different areas of study through which students experience a rich mixture of music from different traditions, times and places.   We listen to many styles of music and analyse them critically using musical elements. It is assessed through an external examination in November. A proficient standard of music theory is expected in this part of the course.

Performance is assessed through solo and group pieces and will be filmed for moderation. Recitals and concerts are held throughout the year: students are expected to gain as much performing experience as possible. Performance coursework is internally assessed.

In Composition, students are encouraged to use their strengths. Individual creativity is encouraged while following well-established rules. We attend workshops with professional composers. Composition coursework is internally assessed.
