Introduction to Geography

The IGCSE Geography course develops a strong ‘sense of place’ by exploring the world at local, regional and global scales. Students study both natural and human environments, examining the processes that shape them and how people interact with them. This helps learners understand global challenges and the diversity of communities and environments across the world.

  • The syllabus is divided into three areas:

  • Physical geography, which explores natural processes and environments such as rivers, coasts, ecosystems, tectonic hazards, and climate change

  • Human geography, which focuses on population change, migration, urbanisation, and the growth of towns and cities

  • Economic development, which examines global development, changing economies, resource provision, and the use of energy and food resources. These areas help students understand how the physical and human world are closely interconnected

Students develop key skills including data analysis, map interpretation, and extended writing. Alongside exams, they complete a fieldwork investigation, applying their learning in a real-world context and building enquiry, analysis, and evaluation skills.
