IGCSE Level Mathematics

Our curriculum is structured to cater to students’ individual needs, offering three tiers of study: Core, Core/Extended, and Advanced. The Core content targets grades C-G, providing a solid foundation for all learners. The Extended content is aimed at grades A*-D, offering additional depth and challenge. For those seeking an extra challenge, our Advanced content targets grades A*-A and covers the Extended content and beyond, preparing students for top grades in A-level Mathematics.

Our differentiated approach ensures that students are appropriately challenged and supported based on their abilities. Depending on their readiness and aptitude, students will be directed into either the Core, Core/Extended, or Advanced course in Year 9, Year 10, or

Year 11.

While Mathematics is compulsory in Year 11, students can choose their educational path beyond this point. Those in the Advanced Mathematics curriculum who are prepared to work hard can opt to study AS Level Mathematics in Year 12, furthering their mathematical journey. Students in the Core/Extended class will find AS Level Mathematics challenging, even with grades A*-A; admission will be at the discretion of the Curriculum Leader.

*Meeting numeracy requirements for University Entrance (Standard admission) necessitates achieving a grade of D or higher in IGCSE Mathematics from either the Core or Extended External Examination.

EXTENSION MATHEMATICS

All candidates will explore the following topics: Number, Algebra, Shape and Space, Probability and Statistics, Graphs, Geometry, Coordinate Geometry, Mensuration, Trigonometry, Vectors, Transformations and Calculus.

The curriculum will cover both the Core and Extended IGCSE syllabus.

Throughout this course, students will learn fundamental mathematical concepts, develop diverse problem-solving approaches, and develop higher-order thinking skills. We aim to nurture their ability to tackle mathematical challenges with confidence and creativity. It is important to note that success is not solely measured by achieving top grades. We recognise and celebrate progress and effort, ensuring students feel supported and valued on their mathematical journey.

In October/November, Year 11 students will sit the IGCSE Mathematics External Examination at the Extended level.

Depending on their progress, some students may be advised to take the Core External Examination instead.

In October/November, Year 11 students will sit the IGCSE Mathematics External Examination at the Extended level. Depending on their progress, some students may be advised to take the Core External Examination instead. While students can switch from the Extension level to the Core level, transitioning back would not be possible due to the cumulative nature of missed additional work.
