IGCSE Level Chemistry

Introduction to Chemistry

(Course spans Year 9, Year 10 and is examined in Year 11 during May/June)

The topics covered during the year involve all four chemistry disciplines. Topics include:

• States of matter

• Atoms, elements and compounds

• Stoichiometry

• Electrochemistry

• Chemical energetics

• Chemical reactions

• Acids, bases and salts

• The Periodic Table

• Metals

• Chemistry of the environment

• Organic chemistry

• Experimental techniques and chemical analysis

All students are taught the Extended Curriculum but students may choose to sit either Core or Extended level IGCSE examinations. In both cases, there is a strong practical component.
