Prerequisites: An enjoyment of Art
IGCSE Art and Design is a 14-month course that develops students’ creativity, technical skills, and critical understanding. Students explore themes meaningful to them, building personal and authentic bodies of work connected to the real world.
The course aligns with Cambridge Assessment Objectives, guiding students to:
Record observations and insights visually and through research
Develop ideas through investigation and personal response
Refine work by exploring and selecting media and processes
Present a personal and meaningful outcome
ASSESSMENT STRUCTUREComponent 1: Coursework Folio
(Terms 1-4, Year 10)
Students produce practical artwork across drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, textiles, and/or digital media. Work includes experimentation, research, artist studies, and a resolved final outcome. Students are encouraged to visit galleries and engage with real-world art. The final folio is presented as a digital portfolio of approximately 20 slides per project, emphasising professional presentation and communication of ideas.
Component 2: Examination Folio and Final Piece
(Term 1 + Examination, Year 11)
Students respond to an externally set assignment, developing a personal investigation with supporting studies. The final outcome is completed in an 8-hour practical exam, documented and presented digitally alongside preparatory work.
Throughout both projects, students learn to take ownership of their learning, refine their ideas, and develop the technical and conceptual skills to communicate visually with confidence and purpose.
