AS Level Global Perspectives & Research

Prerequisites: Admission to this course is by approval of the Curriculum Leader. This course extends and complements many of the Cambridge IGCSE syllabuses, however IGCSE Global Perspectives would be an advantage. 

 

The best motivation for a student is a real passion for the subject they are learning.  


This course empowers students to become confident and innovative leaders who communicate complex global arguments while proposing creative solutions for the future of Aotearoa. By acting as responsible, self-directed researchers and reflective, engaged collaborators, students develop a critical awareness of diverse worldviews, ensuring their pursuit of academic excellence is matched by a commitment to collective growth. 


Global Perspectives emphasises the development and application of skills rather than the acquisition of knowledge. Students develop transferable skills that will be useful for further study and for young people as active citizens of the future. In particular, students:


  • Take full ownership of the research cycle, from initial design to final execution

  • Evaluate complex arguments and diverse perspectives, navigating a range of high-level source materials

  • Develop the ability to construct arguments by synthesising relevant, credible evidence into a cohesive and persuasive narrative

  • Form reasoned judgements by weighing alternative interpretations and worldviews

  • Propose evidence-based solutions for the 

  • Study real-world issues impacting the social, environmental, or economic landscape of Aotearoa


Students research global topics through a range of relevant themes including technology, culture, economics, ethics, environment, and politics. Assessment includes an individual essay, a team project, and an examination on contrasting global perspectives.
