Prerequisites: IGCSE Geography (D grade or higher). Admission to this course is by approval of the Curriculum Leader.

AS Geography builds on IGCSE knowledge and explores topics in greater depth, focusing on the interaction between physical and human processes. Students develop a more analytical understanding of how environments function and how people respond to change.

The AS Geography course investigates the following broad areas:

  • Physical geography, including river processes and hazards, atmospheric processes and global climate change, and earth processes such as plate tectonics and mass movements

  • Human geography, including population and migration, water resources and management, and urban areas and their sustainable development.

  • Students strengthen their ability to interpret data, identify patterns, and apply knowledge to unfamiliar situations. Extended writing develops structured arguments, requiring evaluation of different perspectives and the effectiveness of management strategies.
