Prerequisites: IGCSE Art (Grade C) or at the discretion of the Curriculum Leader.
Students must have a laptop capable of running design software. Adobe Photoshop (or equivalent) is recommended. Please contact the Art Department for device specifications.
This course develops students’ ability to think creatively, work independently, and communicate ideas effectively through digital platforms.
The course focuses on digital photography, image manipulation, and graphic design. Students explore and refine their ideas through a structured creative process, investigating a range of photographic genres such as portraiture, landscape, documentary, and editorial. Work is developed with a clear purpose and intended audience.
Students will understand and apply a range of photographic styles and genres, and will be able to explain how their work connects to social, cultural, historical, or geographical contexts. They will communicate meaning through images, select appropriate techniques for different briefs, and present work with consideration of audience and purpose.
Students will develop skills in:
Photography and image-making
Digital manipulation and post-production
Visual communication and layout
Research and analysis of artists and contemporary practice
Idea development, feedback, and refinement
ASSESSMENT STRUCTURE
Component 1: Coursework Folio (50%)
(Terms 1–2)
Portfolio of approximately 10 slides/pages
Research, experimentation, and development of photography and digital manipulation
Final proposal and outcome
Component 2: Examination Folio and Final Piece (50%)
(Term 3 + exam)
Portfolio of approximately 10 slides/pages
Final proposal realised in a 10-hour practical examination
