Advanced Pure Mathematics 3 and Probability & Statistics 2
Prerequisites: AS Level Mathematics (C grade or higher; however, students with a D grade are considered but will be recommended to resit AS Mathematics in May or November)
The Pure Mathematics course builds on many of the topics covered in the AS course and introduces new topics, such as complex numbers and differential equations. It is suited to students who are passionate about Mathematics and are considering taking Mathematics courses at the tertiary level.
The Pure Mathematics 3 examination is 1 hour 55 minutes and worth 75 marks. It comprises 9 to 11 structured questions based on the Pure Mathematics 3 subject content.
The Probability & Statistics course also builds on the AS course, introducing topics such as the Poisson distribution and hypothesis testing. The Probability & Statistics 2 examination is 1 hour 15 minutes and worth 50 marks. There are 6 to 8 structured questions based on the Probability & Statistics 2 subject content.
For a final A-level qualification, 50% of the AS mark is combined with 50% of the A2 Level. This course requires a commitment to completing set tasks.
