Prerequisites: AS Level Geography (D grade or higher).

A2 Geography deepens understanding of global environments and contemporary issues, with a strong emphasis on analysis and evaluation. Students explore how physical and human systems interact and consider how these are managed.

The A2 Geography course investigates the following areas:

  • Global environments, with a focus on coastal environments and hazardous environments, examining the processes that shape these landscapes, the risks they present, and how they are managed

  • Global themes, including environmental issues and management, and disease and geography, which explore how human and physical factors influence global challenges and the effectiveness of different responses

Students apply knowledge through detailed case studies, evaluate a variety of issues and conflict, and assess the success of different responses. Extended essay writing is central, developing critical thinking and the ability to construct well-supported, evidence-based arguments.
